When Someone Dies
The death of a loved one is always traumatic. There are so many people and organisations that you have to deal with at a time when you are feeling most vulnerable.
The following is a useful checklist which can help minimise the worry of having so many important tasks to deal with at such a difficult time:
For the funeral arrangements check if there are any specific funeral wishes, these may be included in a pre-paid funeral plan or the Will of the person who has died.
The death must be registered. There are certain classes of relatives that can register the death. Also check whether the Register Office operates an appointment system for the registration of a death.
If there is any query with regards to the circumstances surrounding the death, then the death will be referred to the Coroner. The Coroners Office can assist you with any queries you have.
The welfare of pets and family animals needs immediate attention. If there are no family members or neighbours who can assist with their care, try contacting the local branch of the RSPCA, they may be able to help.
If either the deceased or any member of their immediate family was or is in receipt of any State Benefits then you should contact the local benefit office as soon as possible to arrange for a review of the benefit position to be carried out.
These are just a few of the many early issues that you may be faced with once a person dies. There will probably be many more issues. If you have any queries then our expert team of advisors can provide sympathetic advice and assistance at a difficult time for you and your family.
